The World Club is a body of students, faculty and staff who came together with a shared interest in the world around them. We came from different backgrounds, different disciplines and level of education (geography, history, computer science, sociology, economics, urban studies, business, etc.) and believe that by engaging in the world’s affairs and global issues, we gain insight into our chosen disciplines. The club is not just about history, geography, politics, natural hazards and maps! It is more than that!
The main goal of the World Club is to bring awareness to the importance of the world’s cultures, global problems and specifically of the unique cultural diversity of the Greater Hartford Campus of UCONN.
This is accomplished in a myriad ways: annual events, club meetings, field trips, tutoring programs, attendance and participation in the local and regional conferences, encouraging travel as the best way to learn about our world and ourselves, sharing our personal experiences and inviting guest speakers to share theirs.
Our biggest events for the spring semester of 2009 were the World Feasta Day and Trip to New York City. The World Feasta Day is the traditional spring semester activity that brought Greater Hartford Campus community (students, staff and faculty) together. The World Feasta Day is helping someone to find a new friend or get together with old friends as not so traditional an environment as you can imagine: tasting the traditional food from local international restaurants, exhibitions of international artifacts, student’s presentations, guest speakers, games, music and dance.

Please come and join us, we need your help !!!!
Meetings are held either on Tuesday or Thursday, usually at 12:45 pm, in our club office located in the Undergraduate Building (UG 305) of Hartford Campus, room 305. During this time you can stop by for tutoring in geography (by appointment), check our events bulletin board, help to organize activities and volunteer to lead the event, chat with members of the club, and/or sign up for upcoming field trips, excursions. There is also a suggestion box located in the office, classroom 308 of Undergraduate Building. We welcome any ideas for future planning. You can also drop a note in the club mail slot located on the board next to room 215A (adjunct office) or classroom 308 of Undergraduate Building.
Do I have to give time--am I required to "volunteer"?
We invite you to join us for any meeting or event we offer. There is no requirement to volunteer your services. It is not a lot of work or too much of a commitment; all you need to is the desire to help the club.
