There are no cancellations or delays reported at this time. Please check back for future inclement weather related updates and cancellations. For other types of emergencies, please go to the Campus Security page. Emergency Closing and Class Cancellation Procedures With winter weather challenges rapidly approaching, I would like to remind you of the campus policies regarding emergency weather closings, delays and early dismissal, and to emphasize that SAFETY is our top priority. Decisions regarding campus closings, delayed openings or early dismissals will be made by the Campus Director in collaboration with the director of facilities, the UConn Police and the Department of Public Safety.PLEASE PUT SAFETY FIRST: If the decision is made to keep the campus open in questionable weather conditions (as opposed to obvious decisions such as closing for a definite, severe, lengthy storm or remaining open for a dusting) I urge faculty, staff and students to evaluate their routes and consider safety first in deciding whether or not to come to campus, since road conditions vary widely across the region. Faculty should allow students the opportunity to make up work missed under such circumstances, and students should contact professors as soon as possible if they must miss class or activities due to dangerous weather. If there is no decision to delay opening, close, or dismiss early, faculty are expected to hold classes as scheduled. If faculty members anticipate making individual snow emergency cancellations, they must: 1. Set up their own systems for notifying students on the day of class. I recommend using e-mail, text messaging or calling-trees to notify students of last minute class cancellations. 2. Call 570-9214 and have the front office staff post a note on the classroom door announcing class cancellation. Students should not have to take unnecessary risks by traveling to classes cancelled at the last minute. An announcement to delay means that classes prior to the delayed opening hour will be cancelled. The class schedule will resume at the announced opening hour. A recorded notice will be placed on our emergency weather phone line (860) 570-9327, and an announcement will be posted on our Greater Hartford Campus website: hartford.uconn.edu/weather. Notice of closings, delays or early releases will be broadcast over the following radio and TV stations: Radio: WTIC AM & FM; WRCH; WZMX; WDRC AM & FM; HD, HD2, WMMW, WWCO, WSNG These stations cover the entire state as well as parts of Western Massachusetts. Please remember that the stations broadcast our announcements as a public service and we cannot be responsible for any omissions or errors they make. Although the campus may be closed by the Director, classified staff authorization for Winter Weather (WW) time must come from the Governor’s office. Therefore, classified staff should be prepared to report to work or use their own time in the event of a closing, delayed opening or early release that is not authorized by the Governor’s office. Should you have questions please contact me at (860) 570-9208. Thank you for your cooperation. |
