Part 1 - Requirements for all TCPCG students

o Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

o 39 credits in the following areas (must include at lease one course in five of the six areas)

  • English
  • Fine Arts (Art, Art History, Drama or Music)
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Sciences
    Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Geology, Meteorology, Physics, Oceanography
  • Social Studies
    Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology
  • World Language

o 3 credit survey course in U.S. History

State approved courses can be found HERE

o Health requirement

Physical Education or Health course
(If you do not have this course, we offer a CPR class on one Saturday during the spring semester, which fills this requirement)

    Agricultural Education

    • Minimum of 39 credits in Agriculture
    • At least 30 credits of advanced courses must be in agriculture and natural resources

    Students ordinarily complete at least one course in each of the following areas: agricultural economics, farm animals (including: dairy & poultry, farm crops chosen from field, vegetable and fruit crops), soil technology, and dairy science.

    Biological Sciences Education

    • Minimum of 36 credits in Biological Sciences

    OR

    • Minimum of 24 credits in Biological Sciences and up to 12 Credits in closely related areas (Chemistry, Geology, Physics)

    Chemistry Education

    • Minimum of 36 credits in Chemistry

    OR

    • Minimum of 24 credits in Chemistry and up to 12 Credits in closely related areas (Biology, Mathematics, Physics)

    Earth Science Education

    • 36 credits in Natural Sciences (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, Physics)

      With
      minimum of 24 credits in Earth Sciences (Astronomy, Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, Physical Geography)

    English Education

    • Minimum of 36 credits in English

    OR

    • Minimum of 24 credits in Natural Sciences and up to 12 Credits in closely related areas (Theatre, Drama, Journalism)

    Desirable baccalaureate coursework: Advanced Composition for Prospective Teaches, Adolescent and Young Adult Literature, The English Language including History and Grammar, American Literature, British Literature, Women or Minatory Writers, World Literature.

    General Science Education

    • 36 credits in Natural Sciences (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, Physics)

      Must include at least one course in each of the following areas: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, Physical Geography.

    History/Social Studies Education

    Option 1: History Major

    • 24 credits in History (must include a 3-credit survey course in U.S. History, a non-western History course, and a European History course)

    And

    • Minimum of 18 credits of Social Sciences courses (Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology or Sociology)

    Option 2: Social Science Major

    • 24 credits in your major (Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology or Sociology)

    And

    • Minimum of 18 credits of History (must include a 3-credit survey course in U.S. History, a non-western History course, and a European History course)

    Option 3: History/Social Studies Interdisciplinary Major

    • 39 credits in History/Social Studies

    And

    • Minimum of 18 credits of History (must include a 3-credit survey course in U.S. History, a non-western History course, and a European History course)

      Must include one course in each of the following areas: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology or Sociology

    Mathematics Education

    • Minimum of 36 credits with at least one Statistics course

    Suggested courses:

    • Introduction to Mathematical Modeling
    • Multivariable Calculus
    • Elementary Differential Equations
    • Transition to Advanced Mathematics
    • Abstract Algebra I
    • Geometry
    • Applied Linear Algebra
    • Probability
    • History of Mathematics
    • Introduction to Number Theory
    • One Mathematics or related subject areas course (Statistics, Computer Science, Physical or Natural Sciences, Philosophy [Logic])

    Physics Education

    • 36 credits in physics

    OR

    • Minimum of 24 credits in Physics and up to 12 credits in closely related areas (usually math)

      Adequate background in Mathematics

    World Languages

    • 36 credits in French, German, Italian, Latin or Spanish

    OR

    • Minimum of 24 credits in one World Language and up to 12 Credits in related areas

    Special Education 

    • Undergraduate degree in English, Mathematics, or Science

    OR

    • Passing Praxis II scores in English, Mathematics, Science or Elementary Education
