About the University Connecticut Greater Hartford Campus

At the heart of UConn's physical transformation is UCONN 2000, a landmark $1 billion infrastructure renewal program that is rebuilding and enhancing all our campuses.

The UCONN 2000 program funded construction of the new state-of-the-art Information Technology Center Building at the Greater Hartford campus. It features a high-tech computer lab and classroom, providing high-speed Internet and e-mail connections via the UConn web server.

The cutting-edge approach to learning at UConn's Greater Hartford Campus is evident. Our distance-learning classrooms link the Greater Hartford Campus to the main campus for extended instructional activities.

The Harleigh B. Trecker Library is your connection to our comprehensive, interrelated University library system. It allows students to access resources located at the Homer Babbidge Library on the UConn main campus in Storrs as well as the library resources of the five regional campuses, the Law School and the UConn Health Center.

The Gampel Student Center is our students' home away from home, featuring a semi-quiet study lounge, game room, screening location, and meeting area. Our fitness center is open convenient hours, with the latest equipment to meet all your fitness needs. The modern classrooms on our 58-acre campus with its ponds, walkways and inviting mixture of contemporary architecture give you the benefit of a beautiful campus at which to pursue your college education.

The top-flight educational environment at UConn's Greater Hartford Campus features frequent student/faculty interaction. Faculty serve important roles as teachers, advisors, and mentors for our students.

History of the UConn Greater Hartford Campus:
The University of Connecticut established the Hartford Extension Center in 1939 to help meet the educational needs of students in the Hartford area.

With the end of World War II, the demand for educational offerings became so great that the University organized the Hartford regional campus in 1946 and extended its offerings.

In the fall of 1970 the University of Connecticut at Hartford moved to its present location on the Greater Hartford Campus at 85 Lawler Road, West Hartford.
